Regional Artists:
An Open, Juried Show 2009

Donna McNeil, Director of the Maine Arts Commission, juried Regional Artists: an Open, Juried Show for 2009. She noted, “I was enormously pleased to be asked to jury the Ogunquit Art Association members exhibit. My 1990’s Barn Gallery stomping grounds look terrific and it was wonderful to reconnect with old friends. I was pleased to see the diversity of submissions and the strong relationship to place. The exhibit evidences the continued vibrancy of the organization. The community will very much enjoy the viewing experience and I wish all the members the best of luck as they pursue their individual aesthetic challenges.”

This is Barn Gallery’s Thirteenth Annual Open Juried Show. Earlier exhibitions had themes such as ‘Red’ or ‘Night.’ Now, however, artists are simply invited to enter their best paintings, graphics, photographs or sculpture. All work is juried whether created by artist members of the Ogunquit Art Association or by non-member artists.

Different artists enter the show each year. This exhibition offers all area artists an opportunity to compare their work with the best in the region, to have it juried by a prominent member of the art world and to exhibit in the beautiful Barn Gallery.

135 pieces were entered for the exhibition. The juror selected 48 works of art by 30 artists. 15 artist members of the Ogunquit Art Association are showing 24 pieces. 15 regional artists are also showing 24 pieces.
